DIY letter board

Started with this frame, my toddler broke the glass while we were moving. Its ultimately what got me thinking, "what can I do with this?".
I have been wanting a letter board, so I knew this could somehow be made into what I want.
Next, I tried to think of something I have lying around that Icould repurpose into the little slats for the message board grooves. I think if it was a smaller frame then chopsticks would work, any think long strips of wood, like little dowels.
Remembering that they just need to make little slats, and from there you can thinkof tons of other alternates.

I looked around and found an old thick pilates mat with a hole in it. Perfect!

I cut the mat into small even strips.

I hot glued these strips to the back of the frame.

Its important to keep these lines as straight as possible.

Once I glued down all the strips I found an old pillow case to go over it. I had to cut the pillow case down the side to make it lay flat and go twice as long.
Any piece of large cloth would work, old sheet? Here is another chance to be creative and give something you don't use anymore new meaning!

I used a credit card to get the cloth into all the little grooves tightly.

I tucked it back in through the frame and trimmed the cloth in the back.

And heres the finished product! I did buy the letters, but you can get these very cheap!
I was able to make this for under $10! I am happy with how this turned out!
Let me know the different things you were able to upcycle to make this!
